Another dissapointed peformance, dropping points again. Ajax – NEC ended in a 1-1 draw. In 90 minutes, the team from Nijmegen were the better team in the Amsterdam ArenA. Ajax are in a bad flow, every point we drop isn’t ‘an incident’ anymore. Real Madrid away was an incident. Excelsior away was an inident. But when you keep dropping points it’s not ‘an incident’ anymore. There’s seriously something wrong then. And when your goalkeeper is the MOTM for the umpteenth time, you know even more there’s something wrong.
Ajax started in a 4-3-3 with Mido as our striker, the latest debutant Aras Özbiliz on the left and Miralem Sulejmani on the right. Mounir El Hamdaoui played in a sort of ‘no. 10′ role. Enoh and De Zeeuw were his mates in midfield and Stekelenburg, Van der Wiel, Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Emanuelson completed the line up. It was quite an attacking XI but ’till the 38th minute there haven’t been any effort from the Ajax side. It was NEC who were the most dangerous in attack. They were stronger, played with passion and deserved a goal. After 25 minutes, the possession was 38% – 62% and NEC have had 3 shots on goal, whilst Ajax had none. Five minutes before half time, Ajax woke up and started to play something that looked like football. A few chances followed but no goals.

The second half wasn’t much better. Jol took Özbiliz off for another young player from the academy: Marvin Zeegelaar. He started well, caused some danger and Ajax played a bit better. A shot from Sulejmani on the post, an effort of El Hamdaoui but still 0-0. NEC’s effort in the post was followed by an counter attack. Sulejmani with a run and a lovely cross, Mido headed it in. 1-0 Ajax. You could hear the relief in the ArenA. The celebration of the Ajacieden ended quickly. Not even a minute later, Bram Nuytinck scored the equalizer. Ajax’ defense looked sloppy. Ajax gave away a present, something Sinterklaas should do in this period. Mido got subbed for Siem de Jong and 5 minutes before time, Christian Eriksen entered the pitch for Demy de Zeeuw. It didn’t change anything. Apart from a header on the post from Jan Vertonghen and a header from De Jong that got caught by Cilessen, Ajax weren’t even close to the winning goal.

The formation looked good, but there wasn’t any system in the team. It looked like they didn’t know how to play, no tactics. They looked lost, walking on a road to nowhere. There was a plan, but no implementation.

The bad form continues, the trouble continues, the call for Johan Cruyff continues, the call for change continues, the call to get Jol out is getting louder and louder. I said it before the game against VVV Venlo last week, and I will say it again: we can’t lose next week in Arnhem, against Vitesse. Not with this draw and PSV & Twente winning their games. The gap is back to 5 points. The smiles this evening will be in Eindhoven and Enschede and they’ll say: ‘thank you Ajax, for this advanced Sinterklaas present’. There will even be smiles in Groningen, they’ve their 3rd spot back. Ajax are 4th now.

Before the lads have to travel to Arnhem, a trip to Milan is waiting. San Siro is our next stop, our last Champios League game this season against the local AC. In the way we are playing the last few weeks, I can’t see Ajax winning so let’s cross our fingers for a Real Madrid win against Auxerre. That means we’ll still be in a European competition after the winter break even though it’s the Europa Leauge..
