Ajax’s history with Danish players goes way back in time. From Frank Arnesen and Søren Lerby to Michael Laudrup and Jesper Grønkjaer. The latest Danes that have landed in Amsterdam are Christian Eriksen (June 2008) and Nicolai Boilesen (December 2009). Since today, another young player from Denmark has joined the Ajax Academy. Viktor Fischer, who signed his first professional contract, is his name. With him, Ajax now have three pieces of Danish Dynamite under contract.

The 16-year old, born on June 6 1994 in Aarhus is currently playing for FC Midtjylland and Denmark U17. He will join the U19 team in July. Fischer is an attacking player that could play as a central forward and a left winger. Because of his excellent technical ability he can also be used as an attacking midfielder. A no. 10 in Ajax language. Fischer describes himself as a technically and offensively oriented player that’s always trying to go forward. Scoring goals is his second nature, he easily finds the net. In 30 games for Denmark U17 he has scored 21 goals. Another strong point of the Dane is that he doesn’t only create space for himself on the pitch, but also for his team mates. Viktor Fischer is seen as one of the biggest talents in his country and they predict a fantastic future for the young lad.

Despite interest from the clubs that are among the biggest in Europe it never was a tough decision for the young Dane to sign for Ajax. He has had trials at Manchester City, Chelsea and Inter Milan but when Ajax stepped by he made his choice. His most important reason to choose for Ajax are the chances to develop as a player. The circumstances in Holland and especially Ajax, who has one of the best if not the best academy in the world, are almost ideal for young players. Ideal because it’s easier to get first team football. Ideal because the level of the league is a good one to get used to football of the highest order. Another reason that’s been part of his choice for Ajax are the stories of current Ajax first team players Christian Eriksen and Nicolai Boilesen (both 19). They both told him very positive things about Ajax and how it all works at the club. The ideas about how to play football and the chances the youth gets at this club. Both are very enthusiast about the club, the academy and the first team. The fact the central midfielder and left-footed defender are both very happy at Ajax and are happy since their first day, has stimulated Fischer in his decision. His famous first words were: ‘I’m very happy to be here, it’s a dream coming true’.

Not only the Danish international is happy to be at Ajax. CEO Rik van den Boog (who resigns on June 30) showed his smile. ‘We are very happy to have you here. We have had some very good Danish talents here over the past few. We hope you will feel at home, make good progress and stay with Ajax for a long time.’ Also Danny Blind, assistant of Frank de Boer and technical manager in one, couldn’t hide a happy face. ‘After Eriksen and Boilesen, we are very happy we have signed another Danish star for the future. Even though top clubs in Europe were also very keen in signing him, I’m glad he’s chosen for us. I’m sure we will be hearing a lot of him in the future’.

Viktor’s goals for the upcoming years? First of all he wants to conquer a starting place in the U19’s and getting used to Ajax’s style of play. Nonetheless he hopes he’ll be part of the first team in two years. His wish? Playing together with Christian Eriksen and Nicolai Boilesen in the Amsterdam ArenA. ‘A Danish wave at Ajax, that would be great’.

If Viktor Fischer’s football skills are as awesome as his hair, I’m pretty sure we have a real gem in our ranks.
