While writing this I’m still shaking. My dad just called me to ask what the final score was. With a smile from ear to ear I told him Ajax won. Goals from the Serbian, Miralem Sulejmani and wunderkid Christian Eriksen gave Ajax the three points. Once again it wasn’t a great performance but I couldn’t care less in this phase of the season. A win and only a win counts. The lads gave us that today.

Ajax started with Siem de Jong in a false no. 9 role. The older De Jong brother had once again a sublime performance and has proved Frank de Boer should play him instead of Mounir El Hamdaoui. Demy de Zeeuw got De Jong’s place in midfield and had a good game. The rest of the line up was just like normal with Kenneth Vermeer in goal (Stekelenburg got back in training this week). The back four were Gregory van der Wiel, Toby Alderweireld, captain Jan Vertonghen and Nicolai Boilesen. A 3-men midfield with Vurnon Anita, Christian Eriksen and as said, Demy de Zeeuw. Lorenzo Ebecilio, Siem de Jong and Miralem Sulejmani were the ones who had to cause problems for the Heerenveen defense.Ajax’s start was good, despite they barely created chances. Heerenveen were struggling to get the ball forward but still could easily hold on. A cracker from Mika Väyrynen gave Heerenveen the lead. It’s not the first time Ajax had to face this scenario. Only 40 seconds after the opening goal Mickey Sulejmani equalized with a lovely lob after a great pass from Christian. The game died a little bit after that exciting minute. Ajax was everytime a second too late and allowed Heerenveen to be the most dangerous team.  Big chances for Breuer and Haglund followed but thanks to good work from Vermeer and a bit of luck both teams walked down the tunnel at half time with still 1-1 on the score sheet.

The second half started much better from Ajax’s point of view. Just one minute into the second half Christian Eriksen scored the 1-2. His most important goal in his short Ajax career by a million miles. After a lovely combo with Siem de Jong he slotted it home. After that Ajax went on with their bright start and should have scored the 1-3 and 1-4. Chances for Eriksen, Sulejmani, De Jong and Ebecilio (who extended his contract until 2014 earlier this week). Not one of them went in and it was hoping this wouldn’t break Ajax up. Heerenveen got stronger and went for the equaliser. Ajax were just hanging on to it. Jan Vertonghen made a superb tackle when Heerenveen’s winger Beerens thought he was 1 vs. 1 with Kenneth Vermeer. A little later Ajax’s captain cleared a ball from the goal line. Not to forget Heerenveen hitting the post. Ajax were still alive.

Heerenveen pushed Ajax back and the final 20 minutes were nervwrecking. My heartbeat and blood level were higher than ever. Especially because FC Twente and PSV were winning aswell. Ajax fought and got the three points in the end. The final whistle was a true relief.

One game to play in the Eredivisie. The final day on May 15 is gonna be immense. Ajax host current leaders FC Twente in the Amsterdam ArenA. The difference between both clubs is just one point. PSV are out of the title race. The current top 3 is:
1. FC Twente 71 points
2. Ajax 70 points
3. PSV 68 points

A win is needed for Ajax to win their 30th league title. I’m gonna be honest and say I’ve never thought Ajax would have it in their own hands on the final day. I thought we dropped too many points when we lost against ADO Den Haag in March. Ajax held their heads high and went on winning all games from there. Thanks to errors from PSV and FC Twente, Ajax are still in it.

May 15 is gonna be one of the most nervwrecking and exciting days in my life. I have two tickets to the game and I’m taking the man who made me an Ajax fan, my dad. Let it be a memorable day for both of us. FC Twente is a very decent side, they are defending their league title and the most constant this season. Still I believe, with the supporters backing the boys in full voice, Ajax will win. Just like the game against Dynamo Kiev earlier this season, Ajax stood there when they had too and got into the Champions League for the first time in 4,5 years. Ajax will stand there again on May 15 and give the club what its been longing for, for 7 years now: the 3rd star on the chest, the 30th league title. As Toby Alderweireld said: ‘our fans deserve the league title more than we do. We have to do it for them. They’ve been great for us all season, this is our chance to give something back to them’.

I know there’s a cup final first next weekend against FC Twente. FC Twente can win that as long as we win on May 15. That’s all that matters. The KNVB Cup is a nice extra trophy.

Don’t worry about a thing, ‘cause every little thing is gonna be alright.
